Fact: Writing great copy is the difference between 4 figure incomes and 6 figure incomes, period.
What is copywriting?
You may be wondering, what is copywriting? (If you are wondering that, you definitely need to read this article in its entirety). Copywriting is basically writing ads, whether it is an email, sales page, landing page or even a blog post, that entices a person to read it, conveys the message of whatever it is that your trying to accomplish and convinces that person to take action. The goal of writing effective copy is pretty simple: To cause a person to trade his or her hard-earned money for a product or service. When you master the art of writing great copy, you will have the ability to build a business from just the power of your words and with very little capital.
The grand design.
There are several elements to great copy:
- The Headline – To get the reader’s attention and draw them to the sub-headline.
- The Sub-headline – To give more information and expand on the headline.
- The Illustration – To get attention and more fully illustrate the product or service.
- The Copy – To deliver the main message.
- Paragraph Headings – To break up the copy and make it look less imposing.
- The Action Device – A button (learn more, click here, get access …ect.)
Every single element of great copy is designed to do one thing: get your reader to read the first sentence of the copy. Most will tell you the headline is the most important thing in writing great copy, but I offer that the first sentence is just as important. Why? Because, if you have a great headline, (while you will capture attention), if the first sentence sucks the second sentence won’t get read.
Educating yourself is critical.
All elements are important for the overall layout of great copy. If one element is lacking, your copy will be lacking. Putting it all together right is critical to producing the desired results. That’s why educating yourself is essential. You may be a good writer, but copy writing is an artform and it takes learning the ropes if you want to be successful. It’s like comparing driving your car to driving a race car. You know how to drive, but driving a race car is altogether different. If you want to lead the pack, it takes learning how to drive it. Otherwise, you’ll be bringing up the rear.
